Name: Zebediah Killgrave
Alias: The Purple Man
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 165lbs
First Appearance: Daredevil #4 (1964)

Zebediah Killgrave was born in Yugoslavia, and worked as a Soviet bloc spy. His primary objective was to inflitrate the United States Army, and steal experimental nerve gas. He was caught by a guard while carrying the nerve gas, and shot at. The bullet accidently hit the cannister, rupturing it, and dowsing Killgrave in the gas, dying his skin purple, and giving him the ability to command the wills of others and an accelerated healing factor.

Kilgrave used this ability to esape punishment, and relocated to the United States. There he used his abilities to rob banks, force a woman to marry him and bare a child, and attempt to insert himself into a finacial empire through forced suicide. After a near death battle with Daredevil, Killgrave decided to retire from criminal activities, and just live a life of lesiure through his ill-gotten funds.

The Purple Man is probably best known for his terrible deeds in regards to and in association with Jessica Jones. Killgrave came across Jessica Jones, then a superhero named Jewel, and used his powers to force her to dispose of some police officers, then took her home with him. Over the period of 8 months, he kept her captive with his powers, forcing her to strip for him, desire him sexually, and observe his sexual activities with other women under his control. Jones was sent out to kill Daredevil and after a fight with Scarlet Witch became free of the Purple Man's control. This traumatic experience caused her to retire from being a superhero.

The Purple Man is one of the most savage and violent villains in the Marvel Universe. He has forced groups of people to stop breathing until they die, started murderous mobs just to get the attention of heroes, and forcing multiple women to have children with him.

Finally, we will end off with some trivia about the Purple Man:

  • The Kingpin has proven to have been able to withstand the Purple Man's ability through willpower alone
  • In the 1602 series, Purple Man was elected "President for Life"
  • Killgrave has often tried to convince Jessica Jones that they are all characters in a comic book, of which they are not the writers. He sometimes even hints that he believes this as well.
